Running Chicken Nebula, featuring l Centauri, IC 2944 and IC 2948
: a Milky Way star field located around l Centauri and the cluster IC 2948. It has the appearance of a "Running Chicken" with l Centauri forming the eye and nebulosity making the beak, mouth and comb. Of special interest are the dark dust lanes which intrude into, and onto, the emission nebula, IC 2944 (distance ~6000ly).
