NLC's 6-7th July 2004



Another fine display visible from my home location in Scotland occurred on the night of the 6th-7th July 2004. It first became apparent around 23:20UT on the 6th and improved steadily as the sky darkened and stratospheric cloud moved away by 00:35UT on the 7th. It was an excellent display with much structure present extending in azimuth from 280°-30° and elevation 30° at greatest. The display was active as the clouds changed appearance as the minutes passed and a feature not noted previously was an arc of light
about 30° elevation centred in the NNW that moved with the sun (it was apparently not auroral) shown in the first image below.
